Conventional medicine forms the basis of our care. However, there are also a variety of alternative healing methods in ophthalmology, for example acupuncture, anthroposophical medicine, or Chinese medicine. Various therapeutic options can lead to the desired outcome. The prerequisite for success is the patient’s willingness and motivation to undergo a therapy.
While we administer conventional medical treatment to the best of our knowledge and belief in our practice, we leave alternative treatment to professionals who have studied the subject intensively and are in touch with the latest developments. We are happy to refer you to colleagues with whom we work closely.

It depends. For some examinations, your pupils need to be dilated. For this purpose, eye drops are given that impair your ability to drive for a few hours. You should therefore come to us without a car if possible or clarify in advance what examinations are planned.
The costs of eyelid surgery are usually covered by health insurance. In the case of upper eyelid surgery (‘hooded eyelids’), however, a cost consultation must be carried out with us beforehand. The measurements required for this are taken in our practice. The decision then lies with the health insurance company.
You will find a route planner on our homepage to help you with your journey. We can be reached on foot via Stadelhofen station, by tram lines 11 or 15 and with Forchbahn S18. Bus line 31 also goes to our practice—via Heimplatz and the main railway station.
In our special consultation for clarification of surgical interventions, you will receive an appointment within 1 to 2 months. In urgent cases, however, we also schedule this at short notice. The operation can then also be performed within 1 to 2 months.
For this purpose, we offer a biometry consultation every Thursday afternoon. On this day, we use a special device to measure your lens and discuss whether cataract surgery is required. If necessary, we will plan the operation afterwards—it will take place about 1 to 2 months after this appointment.
Your eye will be covered after the operation: you will therefore only see with one eye. This is an unfamiliar situation for you. You may also feel a little unsteady on your feet after the operation. We therefore recommend that you bring someone with you or have someone pick you up.
Outpatient procedures are performed at the Vista Eye Clinic Wollishofen, the Wallisellen Eye Center, or the Hirslanden Klinik im Park, where Dr. Stemmle is an attending physician. Inpatient procedures are also performed at the Klinik im Park.
There is a wide range of excellent opticians in Zurich. Dr Stemmle recommends going to a Varilux centre. Varilux lenses are of high quality and reliable. Dr Stemmle’s consultation is always accompanied by optometrists from Burrioptik. They will also be happy to advise you on your choice of glasses during consultation hours.
